Feature Updates
QUICK NOTE: While we are adding a DLC with a new planet and storyline with its own progression, most of the new content (Storms, New Module, New Resources, etc.) are also coming to the base game, free to all players. There is also a mission chain with new story in the base game that leads players to the expansion. Also, players who have purchased the DLC can invite anyone to their save, regardless if they own the DLC or not. More on that in the multiplayer section!
THE GLITCHWALKERS EXPANSION
ANOTHER NOTE: There is required base game progress to get into this expansion. Once players have completed the mission “A Core Concept” in any save, a new mission called “Is This Thing On?” will become available in the Mission Log. Frank has been working hard at restoring comms and needs your help! If you have already completed “A Core Concept”, the new mission should activate as soon as you load in.
This new mission chain must be completed before you can load into the new level! Once it is done and the cutscene plays, you should be in a new menu, and you can drop down to the new planet.
BEWARE, BEYOND THIS POINT CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS FOR THE DLC
A New Planet – Aeoluz (DLC Exclusive)
The Aeoluz System is currently home to one planet, Aeoluz, featuring brand new biomes, dangerous terrain, unique points of interest, and new mechanics. It is the biggest planet we have ever created and contains 8 brand new biomes for you to explore! Caves have been completely overhauled as well, including Bl!tz’s planet wide Firewalls that you must take down to delve deeper.
Planet Aeoluz is unlike anything in the Sylva System, custom designed by Bl!tZ to torture and torment her fellow crewmates.
Aeoluz also contains brand new ambient music spread across the many biomes on it’s surface and underground.
Glitched + Hacked Storms
(Available in the base game and the DLC)
Glitched Storms appear in the base game. These are not the storms of Astroneer’s Early Access days! Glitched Storms can be found on any planet in the base game except for the starting planet, Sylva. Glitched Storms will appear on your compass and add gameplay in the form of a new challenge to overcome and puzzles to solve. Track them down before they dissapear and resurface in a new spot on the planet!
Hacked Storms can be found on Aeoluz in the DLC. These storms are more dangerous than Glitched Storms in the Sylva System, and require more work to overcome. The new game loop includes working with Frank to gather data to build up your storm protection for multiple different storm types.
New Mission Chain and Lore
The Glitchwalkers Update contains brand new missions in both the base game and the expansion as well as lore items and narrative delivered both on planet and in brand new cutscenes.
New Modules, POI’s and Items
Ruby Module – A new module that collects storm data from Hot Spots inside storms. These Hot Spots manifest as small digital twisters inside storm zones. Place RUBY on a Platform or Vehicle with adequate power near a Hot Spot to start collecting data.
The Vault Finder – A printable item that helps players track a nearby Data Vault. Place on one of your aux slots on the top of your backpack and let it guide you. Use your compass to help find the nearest one, but understand, Aeoluz is a big planet so if you aren’t getting a ping, explore more!
EXO Data Vaults – Special items placed by Frank to help players. Located using a Vault Finder. Activate by completing the exposed circuits on the sides, then plunder them for Frank tech, Rootkits.
Rootkits – Obtained from an EXO Vault. Allows players to gain system access without detection.
D-Cipher Module – Uses Rootkits to apply storm protection and uses storm data generate Counterhack Keys which are essential to repairing Hacked Gateway Chambers.
Storm Data Nuggets – Gathered from RUBY, these storm specific nuggets are used to improve your storm protection at the D-Cipher. Also very valuable as research in the Research Module!!!!
Hacked Gateway Chambers – Bl!tz has tapped into the Gateway Network, hacking Gateway Chambers. Gather enough Data to give to Frank so he can produce a counterhack that will allow you to repair and power up these broken gateways.
Frank’s Shelter – This shelter has been modified to serve as a one stop shop for safety and counterhacking. It contains an integrated RTG and full T2 slots to increase its storage capacity. (We hope to make this a reward for completing the Glitchwalkers storyline so you can print these in the base game at a later date.)
New Progression Mechanics
When you land on Aeoluz, it becomes clear that Bl!tz is actively trying to stop you from reaching them and stopping their plan. They have reset and hacked your catalog, and only Frank can assist you in getting your valuable technology back. Players will need to use RUBY to gather Storm Data, increase their Storm Protection, and repair the Hacked Gateway Chambers that Bl!tz is using to enact their plan. Even the planet’s design is specifically crafted by Bl!tz to stop players from reaching these Chambers and her Lair. Take down her firewalls so you can delve deeper into the planet.
New Characters
[NAME REDACTED], aka Bl!tZ – A skilled hacker with a mysterious past, Bl!tZ has breached the ATP, bringing chaos to the simulation with her disruptive Glitch Storms.
Frank Capiano – The ESS Elysium’s Head of Maintenance. Frank is an ally providing critical guidance and tools to counteract Bl!tZ’s effects on the system. His knowledge and support are vital to navigating the challenges ahead, surviving Aeoluz, and defeating Bl!tZ! Check out his manual attached to the starting shelter on Aeoluz.
