Hello! It’s Riley again. We’re happy to announce that Astroneer will be simultaneously released on Steam, Xbox One, and the Windows 10 Store. This is a big deal for us and will allow Astroneer to reach a much larger audience on day one.

For those of you that don’t know, Xbox has their version of an early access-type platform called Xbox Game Preview. It works the same way as you’d expect from such a platform. Because we are releasing on Xbox as well as PC, one thing that we are refocusing on is controller support. Brendan has been working away at that task and the results are great! I’m actually starting to favorite using a controller instead of mouse / keyboard. Everything feels really tight and I was sort of surprised a lot of the game’s controls translated so well to the controller.

December Release

We are committed to making Astroneer the best possible experience for all players. Because of this we’ll be spending the next months polishing all the features, adding new content, and optimizing the game.

Our goal was to have Astroneer out during the fall season (originally ‘early’ fall) but by pushing back the date just a bit we will improve the game that much more. You only get one chance to play Astroneer for the first time, so we want to make sure that it’s a good one! And while we’re not ready to give a specific date in December just yet, fall ends on December 20th so it’s safe to expect it out before then in the month of December 2016 for $19.99 USD.

We’re setting up for the final shot here.

Trailer

The trailer is 100% in-game recording. No new content was created just for the trailer and there was never any pre-rendered shots or anything of that sort. Making these trailers ends up being a lot of fun. The game is a joy to play with other people so when Adam, Brendan, and Paul were all in a session with me, it was hard for us to all focus on making the trailer. It always seem like one of us wanted to wander off and start deforming a mineshaft. Either that or we’d start messing around with all the things in the game, though sometimes that actually worked out and we got some impromptu footage that actually made it into the final montage section of the trailer.

We can’t wait to see what everyone else decides to have a lot of fun with in December!
