We’ve had a big launch day for the Megatech Update, which is probably appropriate given the name. Our team has been diligently looking at all the feedback coming from the community, and we have valuable information to share that we hope will be of help.
Modding Reminder
We’ve seen reports of the game crashing upon launch, and in the vast majority of cases this is because the game has been modded. We do not officially support mods, so if you have used them on any of your old saves, you are likely going to crash. We are a small team and will not be able to fix that for you, so please don’t inundate the support line with reports on modded saves.
We recommend removing all mods and starting a new save if you want to enjoy the content. Use mods at your own risk!
Megatech Update – Hotfix 1
On launch day, we released a same-day update as an expedited Hotfix intended to help address most of the bigger issues we saw getting reported by the community that seems to have helped a lot already. However, it’s worth noting that this Hotfix is currently only out for Steam, as updates to consoles still need to go through certification. We’ll notify you via our social channels and Discord server when this Hotfix makes it out to consoles.
Some things to note about this Hotfix:
- Patch Notes: Currently, the patch notes for this Hotfix are only on Steam, as it’s the only platform that has received the update so far. You can review the patch notes here.
- Crossplay Temporary Disruption: Since the Steam version of ASTRONEER is running on a different version from consoles, they won’t be able to play in crossplay during this time. Xbox and PlayStation should be on the same version, however, so they should still be able to play in crossplay with each other. Once Hotfix 1 is released for consoles this should be resolved.
- In the case of the Nintendo Switch, the Megatech update is planned to be released for this platform by the early start of 2026. We expect all platforms to return to parity on the same version by then.
Upcoming Fixes
We have additional fixes coming, including another Hotfix that should be coming within a week or two at most. We’ll keep this document up to date but keep an eye on our social channels and our Discord server too for any news that we’re ready to share.
Emerging Issues
Since the release of Hotfix 1, we have continued to monitor reports coming from the community and have identified additional issues to address. The following is a list of some of these issues and some we identified prior to Hotfix 1 but weren’t included in the Hotfix.
- We’ve had reports of ongoing difficulties in multiplayer for players trying to play in a group with more than 3 players. This seems to be limited to Steam players playing on the Hotfix version. We’re working on getting a fix for this out as soon as possible and will update here once it’s out.
- We’ve received reports of game performance worsening after the Megatech update and are currently looking into it. We’re prioritizing a fix for this issue as soon as possible.
- An increasing number of reports from Xbox players and players on the Xbox App for Windows report not getting the Megatech DLC or the Deluxe Cosmetic Pack. This appears to be caused by a service outage at Xbox. Once service is restored, please verify if this resolves the issue for you.
- Some players are running into an issue where partial resource nuggets are getting stuck on Mega-Component Printers on Megastructures and becoming unremovable. To safeguard, do not move any canisters while the mega printers are running. We’re investigating this issue.
- Outside of the crashes caused by modding, we’ve received other crash reports that we’re currently investigating.
- We’ve seen reports of PlayStation players unable to import their PS4 save files over to the PS5 version because the import button appears to be unresponsive. We’re actively investigating this issue. If your saves are in the cloud, save them locally and then attempt to import them again. If you’ve encountered this issue, contacting our Support team would be of great help: support@systemera.net
- Some players on Xbox are finding elements of the game screen appear partially greyed out. Toggling off HDR should help resolve this issue.
This isn’t meant to be a comprehensive list of every issue we’ve identified, just the ones we’ve seen pop up the most and wanted to share awareness on. Check the release Patch Notes for other prior Known Issues.
Other Feedback & Workarounds
We’ve also been seeing some feedback shared around some aspects of the Megatech Update’s game design that we are reviewing, listed here for awareness.
- Megastructure Recipe Costs: We are watching recipe costs closely and will report back if we feel like we need to make any adjustments. While the numbers look daunting at the start, we also want them to feel somewhat challenging. Keep feedback coming about these.
- Mega-Printer Drone not printing: Following the Hotfix 1 update to Steam, some players reported their Mega-Printer Drones not printing their Megastructures, even after providing all the required resources. This is resolved by setting your canisters to output mode. This change was made to prevent circumstances of canisters draining unintendedly, but we’re looking into possibly reverting this change.
Thank you to everyone for sending in their bug reports and for your patience while we work out these issues.
